Hello people, it's da Oinksta here. Recently, my life has changed for the worse and I'm stuck in a pretty awful situation at the moment. I thought I would ask for your advice.

So, I've been an A student all my life. I had never received anything lower than an A- before Grade 7. I was constantly getting school prizes, and I won "most outstanding student" for five years straight, from Grade 2 to Grade 6, at my primary school (Yes, this is Australian). But once I hit high school, things changed. I started getting some B's, mainly B+'s for the subjects I don't like, like English and Art. My parents expected better of me, and gave me some "advice" for improving. Yet, this year, in Grade 8, I've averaged a B for the subjects I hate, and an A- for the rest.

Here's the game changer. Everything's going fine, I'm in Term 2 of the school year (it's winter break for me, summer break for all you 'Mericans) and I rock up to an English exam. It's an essay, comparing The Happiest Refugee, a memoir of a refugee's life (not @Refugeecrafter) and an article on the Australia public's views on refugees. I think, this isn't too hard. I should scrape an A here. So, I sit the exam and feel pretty good after it's done.

Two weeks later, my parents receive a phone call from my English teacher, saying that I received a C- for my English essay. My teacher wanted me and my parents for an interview, so we go to that. I deny anything that I've done wrong in my exam, and that's the truth. I felt like I did pretty good. At the interview, my teacher tells me that I've done horribly, and that she knows this isn't my best. I admit, it wasn't my best, I probably gave 75% effort. But I didn't expect a C-. She tells us that I've just been cruising along for the past couple of years, and that's why my grades are slipping. My parents tell me to put more effort in.

My punishment? I'm not allowed on Meepcraft until I get an A for English.

This will be easy, considering next term is a spoken task on the Hobbit, but a whole three months without Meep. I mean, is that a bit over the top? I'm asking for your opinion on whether or not that was harsh enough/not harsh enough, and what I should do right now.

    Thanks.

You know, reading the first part of this was like reviewing last year
My grades dropped a lot when I came into high school as well. I got 'em up again this year by changing my learning style, so you could give that a try maybe for the B grades.

Also, I think that 3 months may be a bit excessive. Try telling them how meep can be more for the community than the actual game? I had a 30 minute chat about this with my mom once, and now she gets why I like meep so much. (Also playing minecraft stops me from playing bloody killing games, so she likes that too )

Some advice from my personal experience.
Primary school grades are very different to high school grades. Now depending on what your primary school was like, you might never have done a proper test or eassay, that's ok. The important thing is you recognise this and work hard. Find an appropriate work play balance and stick with it.

This is very true, I myself had some very good grades in primary school but come high school I dropped to a B average.

I definitely don't agree with the three month ban, that's way too much! Try and reason with your parents that MeepCraft isn't the reason that your grades are dropping and shouldn't be taken away from you.

I wouldn't stress it imo. The same thing has happened to me as I've been running through the grades.

Generally speaking (take it from a Junior to be), your grade matches the effort you put in (unless you're really smart). 75% is a C.

However, I'd like to say that English being the subject that it is, your piece could've been great, but if the teacher doesn't like your writing style, you'll get a bad grade.

Some great advice. Thanks guys. I'll talk to my parents about it, and see what I can do. Also, I may be able to get on Meep for half hour portions here and there, so I won't be completely blocked from the world of the Meepcraftia. Also, I have Minechat, increasing time, and I'm allowed on forums whenever I want, also increasing it.

My other tip, you'll be surprised how quickly high school goes. Get into good study habits early while you have the chance.

Okay, I've asked my parents (thanks @Refugeecrafter) and they said I can have it over the holidays, but once it gets back into the school term, it's gone until I get an A.

    Thanks for the feedback people!

As a guy who's aced some classes and also struggled through others I can tell you that grades aren't worth very much. In high school, they're mainly a gauge for colleges to tell whether or not you'd be a good candidate(as long as you're not failing). In college, they're a gauge for how well you've done/ how hard you worked to post graduate schools or a possible employer. However, the only thing that really matters is whether or not you know the material. You can get a C+ in calc 3 and be an amazing mathematician, while you can also get an A and not have a clue what to do or how to apply your knowledge. what really matters is whether or not you worked hard for that B or you got it because you slacked and didn't study. My advice is to do your best and push as hard as you can. I've gotten a B in calc despite getting solid A's in my other classes, with math being my best subject, but I worked my (explicit) off for it and learned way more than I would have with a professor who tested easy and gave a ton of extra credit, so I feel accomplished and confident.
