Regarding Closing Helper Apps [rant?]

I thought I'd speak my mind in regards to the staff team choosing to close the helper apps.

I thought that the staff team "rushed" to accept a few people, then simply closed the option to apply for helper. Let me be straight to the point: Its dismal that there are over 15 mods/helpers, yet at certain times of the day, there are no staff online. For hours. Happens every day.

Rather than accepting 3+ different helpers who can't even perform their role, who are no more capable than some of the existing staff, I suggest choosing people who can be online when others are not--people who live outside the US. I'm hinting at @Kling here, as he was one staff member whom you could count on to be online at those odd hours of the night.

I understand that if staff choose someone for helper, its because they think they fit all the requirements, but does it matter if someone is an exceptional staff member if they can't be online when they are needed the most? And yes, there are many times when staff are needed during the odd hours, more than you probably think.

Well since we are staff, we make decisions.
As much as i can accept that an opinion is an opinion, I dont feel its nessessary to have to justify our decisions with players. Most players, yourself included, feel that just because our staff team is VERY player based and interactive with the community, you get to judge and scrutanize our decisions as if you know what needs to be done.

It gets old. Make a post about pokemon and for the love of god, let us do our job. :]

 

I said in my app I can be active in pretty much any timezone. I'm slowly shifting my sleep schedule. It'll take me a bit of time but I'll be there. It'd be helpful for you to list some exact hours.

You probably know I'm one of the hardest on staff apps. I think everyone that was accepted with me is currently qualified. And honestly, it's pretty hard to get me to say that.
But I also do agree with you people like kling should be staff again. But he needs to apply again, explain the demotion and such.

Someone can be an exceptional staff member in their own timezone. Sometimes it's just impossible to accept some people as staff and be okay with it. Not everyone in every timezone wants to apply, and those that do may or may not be qualified. We aren't going to accept someone based off of their timezone and their timezone will never be a deciding factor. We will also encourage you to apply but we most certainly aren't gonna force anyone.

 

Don't they have enough to worry about with the Eula and making the donators happy with new perks? Leave it be.

 

Truth be told, it's none of your business how they add staff. Be a player.

Hi sickly.

Lets be honest here. I definitely know you're hinting at me so let's cut to the chase about some of us.

A. Many of the newly accepted helpers have past experience, and you may not have been there to see it(I and refugee are not).
B. You don't see what happens behind the global chat. Staff believed all of us were ready, and therefore we were chosen for helper.
C. Oh woe is me! I keep the global chat in line, I'm such a terrible person for keeping everyone from insulting each other and causing others lag. Honestly calling me and others cancer for doing our jobs proves we are up to par for staff.
D. You take every chance you get to belittle us down to the breaking point to make us feel worthless. All of us have been able to take the crap, like other staff members, and we all have done a great job of learning. Accusing us of not being able to do our job without really. Truly seeing what we do is not only bias, but very faulty logic.

Before you criticize any staff member or call out the staffs decision, think about what you're going to say

 

There are only so many helpers that can be on a server. The reason it feels rushed is because one, there were multiple staff members that were demoted/resigned this past month, and two, they had to either accept or deny all applications in order for it be an efficient closure of applications.

You have no idea how hard staff try to be online all the time. Not to mention, there's less people who need help at those times of the day. I'm not saying Meepcraft shouldn't have staff at those times, but I'd rather be picking people based off good conduct. We had 24/7 staff before and I'm sure with due time it will happen again.

I would highly suggest allowing the new staff to gain about a month of experience before really trying to feel out what their qualities are. You can agree or disagree with me on this if you'd like and I won't bite a bit, but if someone has integrity and the right amount of experience anyone can be a helper.

Well, I apologize for living in the country that I love. If someone were to be denied due to their residence, would that be fair?
Then again, from a business point of view, they normally accept those that fill the void. It's all in how you interpret it.

There's a difference between keeping people from insulting each other and just shutting down legitimate conversations for no reason other than that someone might be "offended". With staff like you we can't talk about any issue that really matters, which pretty much restricts chat to ads, boring small talk, and new players saying things like "how do I join a faction" and "I just found diamonds!". I can see why y'all are against things like intense swearing, but not letting people say anything worth saying because it might be mildly offensive to one person? That's just stupid. And if you are that person who's offended by everything? You're just stupid.

Also I agree that we do need helpers in more time zones, we advertise 24/7 staff but it's more like 20/7 most of the time.

 

I don't know how talking about fish reproduction is a legitimate issue worth talking about but cool beans.

 

Number one, squid aren't fish, they're cephalopods.
Number two, I wasn't talking about that conversation specifically. You randomly end conversations all the time.

 

I am supporting @sicklynerd in this post. I do believe a factor that should be added in an application is a part that asks if you are able to perfom at these "certain" times. I am actually able to be on during those "certain" times, or will, for that fact, because turning 18 next year would mean no more school which means availability at night. But then you have to consider, @sicklynerd, that these helpers are in school and they are children and they might not have the same availability as you.

 

I use to care so much about who got added to the staff team and use to be rude to most staff members I didn't like. But I realized (2 days ago) that its not my priority to chose, and if staff want to add crap people (not saying that anyone is crap) let them do it. Its their server and we as players cant really say anything about their decisions. I am done caring about who gets staff and if staff are offline or inactive, we can always say our opinions but can't decide for them and as I mentioned before, its their team so let them do what ever they think is best for the server. On the other hand our job is to be players and enjoy playing instead of stressing out about the staff team.

Dawn, I'm just going to let you know that as a staff member you shouldn't argue too much because those arguments are going to lead up to you saying something that you will regret saying in the future, trust me I have done this before.

 

Heh, helpers are like kids, they dunno when just being quiet is the best of the options.

 

If they have the qualifications to be a successful helper then thats a different story. Its just those certain times like they can be on 11 hours everyday but not on those certain times. If they are on 11 hours a day, then thats good, compared to a person whos on 2 hours a day, but actually are on during that certain time when no mods are on. What you are saying is true. But then again, why would we give a person on 16 hours a day but not on at all during those certain times helper vs someone 5 hours a day but always on in those certain times not helper? On their app, they would say they are on 16 hours a day and thats great because they are on all the time, but if you say 5 hours a day, including weekends, then thats almost not efficient enough. Rather than taking a consensus and finding out what that certain time is that there are no or few staff members online and making a question in a helper app that asks if you are on, or available in those certain times. Or even like a question that says: How many hours per day do you play on Meep, and what are the times? Or How many hours per day do you play on Meep, and are you available during these certain times___?

 

Many problems can be resolved by closing them, many problems can surface by not closing them. Though I really think they shouldn't, I'm staying neutral on this issue. Sorry if this made absolutely no sense, I'm good at rambling.

 

Weird, usually I would be all in with these types of threads attacking staff. But honestly, let them do their thing. Staff have had to do more than meep has ever seen before besides the reset. I think I just recently learned, these suggestions won't do crap.
