    A. Third towny-protection-based world with "special settings" idk maybe towny war related or read Deinen's posts below for more insight.
    B. Larger towns A/B (8 plot bonus per res goes up to 16, as well as mapsize)
    C. Dynamap.(perk'd or unperked.)

All three of these require a substantial amount of server resources, one could speculate that only one option would be possible. Vote!

    D. Begin adding additional content to pre existing town world's. Create depth to the existing world's.

Am on the edge if my seat because knowing deinen this will be great
I think deinen is right on the money because making towny as great and unique as possible will be the best way to draw and keep players

One idea I've had is this:

A revision of what a town is. Whether or not this requires another world or not is discussable, however I would like to see a permanent town, call it a city.

The major highlight I've envisioned for a "city" is that it is a permanent entity, which consists of various offices that can be held by people by votes. IE: Mayor, city council, treasury, and whatever other office one would like to see. This obviously requires a lot of planning, none of which I've sit down to do as of now. Cities could built like any town and additionally purchase expansions/buildings. (Don't want to build a road? Select the plot your in, purchase or place a prebuild road, and poof a professional city road is placed)

Additionally, cities could serve as an immersive environment for jobs. Instead of going out to the wild and chopping down wood/mining stock for hours, one could travel to various NPCs and get jobs, like quests in any MMO. There could be various types of NPCs a city, and any town that exists that could serve several purposes. Giving out jobs, repairing equipment, healing, etc.

Another idea is giving nations a purpose. For example: A mayor of a town gets to build on an X area of land, and a King gets a 2nd entity of land which they could build a national "town". National towns could be centers of commerce for a nation, or a place to congregate. One way to encourage people to use this is every month, nations can get one of 6 additional "benefits" which would require a vote of towns within that nation to select.

These are just kinda off the top of my head things that I've, at one point and time, thought I'd like to see. But in all reality any additions in towny to move it further away from the near plug and play plugin it is. Crueltygaming had a couple great ideas, one was to make a WoW type plugin. I think if we can bring in MMO elements into towny, we can keep adding to the persistent gameplay experience towny already is. I don't want to remove anything from towny, but I would like to add something in to diversity it. When there is only so much one can do (Build a town, recruit players into it, make 1 of 100 business that already exist) people will tend to get over the game after a period of time, that's natural.

However, most of my ideas depend on the notion that the server is making an investment toward the long term, not necessarily to drive profits up within the next few months.

These are some great ideas. However I do think that they might get too confusing or complicated for some players. One thing that could be added is the ability to "buy" trader NPCs for one's town when one has a certain number of residents, and for every x amount of residents, more traders that buy/sell different things and give out jobs (the ones you were describing in your post) are available.

I think this would be a good start to adding unique things to our towny world, and making it less repetitive and boring (after a while). It is far less elaborate than a whole WoW plugin, so it wouldn't be too difficult to implement. To ensure quality, we can make small additions over time to towny. Another good thing that this idea would do is benefit people with large towns. In my experience as a town owner with many residents during times I've played here, affording town upkeep has always been a reasonable concern because no one ever wants to join a town with taxes. Adding trading NPCs that can be bought and put into a town would help a mayor pay for upkeep, and increase the depth of play-ability for the towny plugin.

Also, I've always been a fan of towny war but there really has never been enough support to implement it seriously. The responses have either been "Go play factions" or "We dont want our stuff destroyed"

I guess those are reasonable arguments but I would still love to see towny war be implemented seriously. In my opinion, towny gets a bit boring after a while, and adding towny war would further increase the amount of things a player can do. Not a lot of people know how towny war works. You can't actually just go in and raid any town without notice. In order for two towns to be able to fight each other, they have to agree on it first. (The specific rules of war could be made later) Even then, it is still very hard to take over a town because you have to take it over plot by plot, from the outside in. Anyway, my response to the whole "we dont want our stuff destroyed" is that whoever agrees with this can go play on creative if they want to make a structure to just sit there and look at it. In my opinion, towny would be a lot more fun and people's homes would be a lot more valuable to them if they were forced to defend it. This would add more depth to the plugin because people would be more inclined to join established towns rather than make their own. For these reasons, we would see a decrease of smaller towns and there would ideally be maybe 5 or 6 huge popular towns that would then eventually create alliances. This would then give nations more of a purpose. Because right now the only reason to join a nation is for more plots.

I like the ideas, but it would require another world for this, further diversifying the population.

Not if the intent is to incentivize players to migrate from those worlds to a new world. I think people would happily not play an old, outdate gamemode in order to play a more update gamemode, that contains the same features than the old world, plus more.

Quite a lot of the features you mention would go well into the existing towny worlds as you had said, I like this concept of modded towny.

Perhaps we could combine the two ideas: cities and nation towns into a 'capital city' for each nation. This city would not be the town owned by the King/Queen, but more like the nation town suggested by Deinen. There can only be one city per nation (it is the capital, duh) and instead of its purpose being housing for residents, its purpose would be a meeting space for the elected government, and a place of trade and business.

Positions such as King/Queen, Treasurer, Nation Council Members (Nation Assistants) and more would each have their own office space and would each be elected every month or so. This would be fun as mayors, assistants and residents could run campaigns for council members, etc. although this does bring up the issue that a new King/Queen may be elected and run the nation into ruin.

The NPC job idea would fit into this system, but there could also be spaces for player based businesses, s one perhaps each town would have its own business? This would also allow for residents within each town to have jobs for their town's business in the capital, I've had plenty of my residents ask me if they could be the town's armorsmith, or the run a town cafe, and this would allow these residents to have those jobs.
