It would cost I think 50 or 100 meebles just to send a message in shout if you were a citizen back in 2012. It was annoying, but it was eventually removed.

The only reason I got VIP on my main account, making Vip really good for a $10 rank imo.

I like the idea of being charged to advertise, it's more realistic.
I haven't seen the original suggestion since it hasn't been linked, but from the discussion on this thread I get the idea that this fee will only apply to citizens. I completely disagree with this. Here are some reasons:
    • The majority of players with little money are citizens. This tax will disproportionately affect these poorer players, and in the situation that they are new players to the server, make it harder for them to build their balance and may quit the server.
    • I like the idea of the removal of /ttoggle to ensure that the taxed advertisements reach as many players as possible, but if the tax only applies to citizens, we're basically just removing /ttoggle for the ranked players, free of charge.
    • An advertisement tax adds a sense of realism to advertising your shop. I think that it would be fun to measure the profits (or losses) made from advertisement, and being a ranked player, I would miss out on this. (Yeah this reason is weird, I'm unhappy that I don't have to pay tax! xD)
Instead of making this tax for citizens only, perhaps we could add a special 'Chat Tax Exemption' feature in the shop that can be bought for so much money, increasing our donations. I've seen this on other servers where you can buy a certain ability, kit, etc. that it completely separate from your player rank. This 'Chat Tax Exemption' feature would remove the advertisement tax and the shout tax for the specific player, regardless of their rank.

I agree with this sorta, though I'm still not sure if I want the tax or not. If it was implemented, there should be some sort of coloured lettering like ults and supremes for all tr talkers to make it stand out, perhaps green?

/tr free is removing the /g 100 meeble 'to much spam'' and moving it to /tr. If you spam to much in /tr you're going to receive a fee.

Adding a fee in /shout was a good idea at first, but with the implementation of /tr (trade chat), it's a good time to move the fee from /shout /g to /tr.

New players aren't going to know every single chat channel right away, the chances of this impacting someone's playing experience because they can't afford to ''advertise their town or pwarps'' imo is absurd. If you're a new player and already have your own town and or pwarp, then It's almost a guarantee they would know about the /tr and have enough meebles to afford to advertise their town and or pwarps.

If there is no /ttoggle and it's on for everyone, I'll +1 a constant fee.
If you can still do /ttoggle, I only like the idea of adding the tax of 100 meebles every 3 chats if you do them to fast. The thing that's in /g. Don't remove it from global just add it to tr.

Removing /ttoggle so everyone sees your ad does not do anything except force people who normally use /ttoggle to have their chat spammed. In essence, you're forcing players to pay for an audience who wants nothing to do with your ads. Removing /ttoggle does not justify a tax on trade chat because the only people interested in your ads are the people who have trade toggled on on a normal basis. Hence, the only thing you're adding is a tax for using a special chat designated for trade. On top of that, when sending trade messages in Global becomes illegal by warning, kick, temp, ect. you have created a system which punishes new players low on change for trying to start their own shops, something that we've been trying to make easier to do.
An alternative proposal is to do one of three things
    1. Add a pay-per-message chat that bypasses /ttoggle
    2. Implement a "gotcha" payment for users who send ads too fast, much like that of global
    3. Keep chat the same as it is now.

1 would still add quite a bit of community backlash, especially from those who regularly use /ttoggle
2 would help solve the issue of players breaking the "3 duplicate messages per chat box rule"
While 3 would benefit new players who have very little meebles whenever they try to start a shop, buy, or sell items via player to player transactions. Additionally, 3 would not address the richer players to whom 100 meebles may seem insignificant as it is insignificant

On a side note, you cannot continue to promote a player to player economy while supporting policies that restrict it's growth among newer players, i.e. advertisement taxes.

I don't know why I'm replying to this when I should be playing Dark Souls III

Your logic, in hindsight makes sense to most, doesn't really explain the entire situation. You're only seeing this as a bad thing, new players won't be able to advertise for their towns, pwarps, shops etc. But in actuality if a new player has any of those things, then they know about the /tr free, they would of had to had money in the first place to have any of the things listed. This in turn would make them want to play more, by making them go to the wild more for resources, voting more, donating more etc. Those who do not stick around are going to be those who weren't going to donate in the first place. The way I see it is like this, If a new player joins, likes what they see and wants to become apart of it, then they're going to stay, work hard, earn meebles to buy a town a shop, a pwarp etc. Meaning they're most likely going to donate to help the server. But the people who do none of these things, aren't going to stay, and aren't going to donate. You can't expect everybody who joins the server to know what they're doing, and adding a /tr fee isn't going to have such a negative impact as you're thinking.

Most new players either have a simple shop plot in a free town or simply say /tpa to me to buy (xyz). Anyone with larger connections could, within reason, pay a tax on advertisements.

Denied. We have reasons to have the /tr fee.
