Yes, entirely. They would need to be given the proper permissions, of course. That's Server Staff. Town Staff would be viewed as normal players. To LWC, that is.

-1. We have towny. Really, the only people that can edit your town plots are the Mayor, Co-mayor and assistant. If you want to Lock your chest then make it into a shop by placing a sign on the chest filled out like this:

    [Name]
    1
    B99999999

Nice suggestion! But instead of password chests, we should make it like skyblock chests where you can place a sign with you name on it, on the chest(s) to prevent others from accessing your chest.

You don't even have to do that. It's as simple as typing /lock into chat, then punching the chest. Locked from all!

This is kind of unprofessional. I say if we were to implement it, we should have it only enabled in a town. i.e. if you're in wild you can't lock it. Also, an expiration, I've seen servers with tons of available raids being ruined due to LWC chests.

    Scenario:
A citizen joins the server and eventually a town. He works for weeks getting all of his stuff. A bad assistant steals his stuff and he comes back mad and leaves without a chance for staff to recover his items if they even find out.

See you can do that. You can limit what worlds it has effect in. I've seriously contemplated taking inventory of my house and checking it every time I log on. Not that I don't trust my mayor, it's the other town staff I don't see online that I don't trust.

The locking chests, furnaces, doors, fence gates, ect. was why I loved Mineguild. (Since Mineguild went down, I've been trying to find another server like it.)

I'm Completely against the idea. Considering the houses are Owned by the town and town staff and them not being able to even use them . It doesn't seem logical. Also, if a player leaves without warning you would have to get staff to do /unlock. Its just unnecessary plugins that will clog up the memory and create more lag and fuss. Just use Chest shop. :/

Excuse me? Have you read anything? I don't want the fuss of making a ChestShop. ChestShop is NOT for locking things away. It's for selling things. Not to mention, even if the mayor owns the town, they have no right to walk into my house uninvited. And yes, it might make a little more work for Staff, but we've got a pretty large Staff crew already. Nothing they can't handle.

Sorry man, but this is a -1 from me. I really don't see the point of having this plug-in. The only use I see is if someone is too lazy to put a shop chest to protect their chest. And Wild really shouldn't have this plug-in in general. As mentioned before, it creates too much unnecessary work. What if the player leaves the town? Suddenly, only staff can unlock the chest. Furthermore, towny raids become much more difficult as these chests will be 'locked'. The argument of not trusting town staff is a simple one to refute. Just cover your chests with shop signs. The only way to remove them is through /plot clear which you must own the plot to do so. Overall, this plug-in would create too much work and little to no benefit aside from convenience. And convenience isn't a good enough reason.

Please explain to me the use of having this plug-in. That is what this discussion boils down to.
Why and how would this plug-in be useful?
Would it help the server or cause unnecessary work?
Do the pros outweigh the cons?

Simply put: This plug-in would have little to not benefits for the server. The scenario outlined above a citizen rage quitting over losing items is a valid reason. However, there are Chest Shops to lock chests. Though chest shops are meant for selling items, they can be used as a locking mechanism. But what about /plot clear and bypassing protection such as doors and fence gates? Yes, the town staff can bypass protection. It is meant to be that way. Town staff are supposed to be responsible for the town and that includes clearing plots. If we implement this plug-in, it would create much more work for the town and the staff.

Yes, we may have a large staff, but even then, staff has work to do. They cannot be on call 24/7 every time someone needs to remove a door or a chest. To do so, we would need to give Towny Staff permission to bypass such protections. But if we do, we'd be back where we started. This would not help nor would it achieve what you want to do. If we suggest that unclaimed plots should have no protection, what's stopping a town staff from forcibly unclaiming your plot and then reclaiming it and acquiring your items? This plug-in is for convenience, not utility.

I'm going to assume that you are talking of the MineGuild Server that was pure vanilla and did not have any mods on it aside from the plug-ins. If so, that server was a Survival Multiplayer Server. Meepcraft is a Towny Server. In the SMP, players are encouraged to work together and staff personally know each player. Usually, these servers are smaller to allow staff to reach every players concern. Though I've never played on MineGuild, I have played on servers similar to this SMP style. Usually the staff would be around to help player concerns. In this scenario, the staff to player ratio is 1:4 to 1:5. Meepcraft is a much bigger server and our staff has much better work to do than dealing with every /modreq on a locked door or chest.

The question is how useful would this plug-in be in the long run. And for me, I cannot see that much usage in the long run. This plug-in is for convenience, will create more problems, and every possible solution to fix these problems would put us back where we started.

As an alternative, I think we should have a tutorial on how to make and create chest shops in the Tutorial we have now.

Use chest shops to lock your chests, and who cares if town staff can open your door
They can just mine through your walls anyways

No. It was very similar to Meep, but with no minigames, only one towny world, and better architecture at spawn. Also, the base tawn size was free, you were taxed for increased sizes.

yah. not like anyone has ever ragequit if they started being killed and had all the stuff they worked hard for taken. they would be all smiles and roses if that happened*

*im not saying that raiding is bad, im just saying your logic seems kind off nonsensical
