Really, is it necessary?

So, one thing that has bugged me and some others for a long time is people posting 'I don't see you in global', which really annoys me. The fact that you cannot help people in a private conversation is ridiculous. For a starter, yes you may not know what their strategy is for helping but why does it matter? The people who they help are the ones who know mostly what they are like. Since I was staff earlier, I know that you mainly talk in private or local chat. I was told that talking in private is the best way. That means that people don't interfere. I pretty much never see staff members helping in global unless people need help. You help in private chat.
Also another thing is that you should NOT post your opinion unless you actually know of them. What help does it bring to the thread if you just post, -1 Never seen you. Nothing! Absolutely Nothing.
So, before you post on applications. Post something useful. If you want the applicants to help more in global, tell the staff to as well because this is just plain annoying.
P.S, a tip is to check what the timezones are. If they aren't in your timezone, you probably wont have met them

You were staff before lol -1's from people unless they are staff members don't really matter I'm pretty sure. Stop complaining and just do it.

Matt, I am talking generally. I agree but giving a -1 for the sole reason of not talking in global. I hardly ever see people asking questions in global. Staff members help in msg not global. If you want them to help in global, tell staff members to do it more as well

Jamez I understand your concern as I had the same problem when I was applying for staff. I agreed with you during that time as it is a bit spammy when everyone is answering the same question for someone in shout.
The reason people like to see applicants answering questions is because it proves that they have the knowledge to answer basic questions. Another thing this does is makes the player recognizable by others in a positive manner.
In my personal experience, when I applied, I was recognizeable by my activity on Teamspeak and word. I would privately help someone build a house or solve a problem, and they would naturally tell other people "look what so-and-so did for me!" There's tons of ways to get known without answering questions all the time in global, but people need the patience to get generally known.
Now I'm not saying you have to do exactly what I did, but be creative! If you need anything you know I'm here for you, and feel free to contact me if you need anything.

Totally agree that "-1 never seen you means very little"; and that it is a useless tool to grade a potential volunteer. I'm fairly confident that no one that matters pays attention to them anyhow.

I've always opted for applications to be private, after all if I were to hypothetically apply for a job at burger king and the manager told me that he needed to post the application out front for all the customers to vote on.....

You shouldn't have to eat at burger king every day to get a job on meep. Yea, make sense of that!

I am not talking strictly about my staff application. People can post what they want. The annoying thing is that when you are applying for staff, you want constructive criticism, which you can take away from it and work on to improve. It is so annoying when they don't put anything useful and just '-1 Never even seen you'. Why post it? It is not useful. Only post when you have something that is useful to say or don't post at all.

 

I feel like people seriously overrate a staff application.

-"You can't be helper if you are immature"; Oh, well I'm sorry for being a teenager then. Being "Mature" means, being self-disciplined, being a good role model, staying modest,being caring, having integrity, not being afraid to share your opinion, and not being afraid to be fair with judgments and consequences. I know myself well enough to know if I am mature or not. I agree that I am not fully there yet, but I believe that I am fully capable of accepting consequences, honesty, remaining loyal, and being a responsible person in general. Just ask @anikin ultimate, I did something he didn't like, and I took full responsibility for my actions. He has since forgiven me, and we have moved on.

-"You have to take the job extremely seriously"; Oh, I didn't realize that I was applying for a payed job that could provide some good experience for my CV! It's a Minecraft server! People who apply for this server do so because they are willing to dedicate their own time to help keep a Minecraft server under control. Do you seriously expect me to take a "job" like this seriously? Just in case I haven't stressed this enough... It's a minecraft server! A "job" like this won't help me survive a financial crisis, nor will it be any experience for a Resume or CV, Unless you put it under "volunteering". But if I were an employer who saw "Minecraft Server" under "Volunteering" on someone's CV, I would straight up toss that CV into the recycling.

I literally see and hear people in chat and on TS saying "Why is Blendy a helper?". Maybe it's not what the people saw in him, maybe it's what the mods saw in him. The server obviously saw something good in Blendy and decided to accept his interview. This leads me to believe that the player's votes are truly not as important compared to mod's votes.

There is a serious problem with people overrating the application voting criteria. One time on TeamSpeak, me and a group of people were in a channel, We were talking about staff and then someone mentioned that they should apply for staff, to which I said "+1". @Muunkee - Alexia was in the channel, and after I said "+1", she said "seriously?" then left the channel. From here on out, I will vote fairly on applications based on what I think is good and what I think is bad about an applicant. Immaturity doesn't count, Activity may count, and Attitude absolutely counts. There will be no Bias, Each person should be judged fairly.
