The Church and Ultramontanism

Hi there!
Recently, I have been thinking about the church's role in modern society. I was born into the Roman Catholic
Religion, even though I like to consider myself Agnostic since I haven't been to mass since my Confirmation a few years ago, but I still remain open to the concept of god. Anyway, my family still attends Sunday mass (without me) and each of my three sisters attend Sunday school during mass. In the case of my sisters,I have noticed that they have been under a lot of stress lately primarily about the homework they get from Sunday school. They have been reviving project after project and assignment after assignment. And apparently, they also have exams, not tests, EXAMS! Back when I attended Sunday school, we never got projects or exams on top of my regular school June exams, we rarely got homework and even if we did it was very minimal. My parents have been receiving phone calls from the church to tell them that my sisters were behind in their assignments and that they need to catch up or else they would fail. At that moment, I knew for a fact that the church indeed has a hidden agenda. To me, Sunday school is useless since it doesn't teach you necessary life skills, where it is instead only focused on literally going over every single page of the bible, which will not help or benefit your future in any ways. whatsoever. Okay I may have over ex-saturated, Sunday school does in fact teach you virtues that can help you grow to be a kind and virtuous person such as; volunteer work, community service, and performing random acts of kindness. However, I find that the extremely intense work-load is excitingly unnecessary.

What I think is going on, is that the church is trying to regain a large amount of control over the society. In the province of Quebec up here in Canada (where I live), started off as a highly religious community. The land was discovered by Samuel de Champlain in 1603 who was ordered by the king of France to find a faster route to china, but instead discovered a land and called it "Nouvelle France"(New France). Back then, France was a heavily religious community that followed the Roman Catholic Religion. As the centuries passed, the Church had control over society as governor up until the mid-19th century, when it slowly began to lose it's power the Quebec society. During the 20th century when WWI came around, less and less people attended masses to focus on their jobs, since all that factories in the area were converted to produce weapons and artillery for Britain. Finally the church completely lost power of society during The Quiet Revolution in the 1960s to early 1970s. And now, I feel as if the church is trying to regain control over society once again.

I'm sorry for that long, boring, history lesson, but i'm just trying to get you to understand what I mean. I truly believe that the church is trying to govern the community in secret, and regain control over society. Please let me know if you feel that you can agree with me, or if you don't.
