The primary reason I am into politics at the moment is because I feel that as technology gets better, most of my generation, those in the generations to come, and those who are slightly older than I am are becoming lazier and wanting more stuff for free. (Sorry all of those who want Sanders to win. I do agree that you have a right to what you want to say though) I believe that this country has started to loose that American "anything is possible with enough gumption" attitude that helped make the US one of the strongest countries in the world.

@Chaase5 Not to be rude chaase but could you possibly follow the guidelines @Deinen set and back up your opinion with Trump's policies? I did with my first post and I would like to see everyone back up their favorite candidate with their views on the candidate's policies.

Not the way you are suppose to use a firearm... but hey... so long as it is legal, can't see what is wrong with a bit of cooking "Murican" style.

No problem, I actually really enjoy seeing those who do not live in the US chime in with their opinion because it allows us who do live in the US to see what others in the world think of the candidates.

@NuckleMuckle I hope you got my private response to your question and if you have any other questions, just post them. ;)

Can you explain how it's "free", when in fact, it's clearly not free, as it's paid for by increased taxes?

I think what he means is that the people who will be paying the majority of the tax will not be the ones to use the program.

It's unfair to dismiss a reasonable view on these policies as "just wanting free stuff"

I inherently think that a public, universal education policy will inherently make this country stronger. We will have a more educated population, which leads to all sorts of benefits.

It would be akin to me saying "People who aren't for this is because they dislike people who are smart"

    It's disingenuous

I'd be willing to bet a good chunk of money, that I, who has a family (four children), and a full time job that I run circles around you.

Stop basing what you think others should do based on your own life. This is the crux of your argument "I had to do ....." "By god, if I had to do ... then why can't someone else do ..."

It's just crying that something is unfair, that's why you don't want it to happen. That has no bearing on the strengths and weaknesses of policy.

This country was made stronger on the backs of the weak, being stepped on by the powerful. Our history is rife with these examples. Can you provide any examples of gumption that just made America stronger, by golly.

The rich in society has always incurred increased burden of cost for society. This dates back to Ancient Rome, why should it be any different now?

Grumpy old man says, "If you want to go to college, GET A JOB!! That's what I did. Freeloaders!"

Grumpy old man went to school in 1978, when it was possible to work a minimum wage job for 40 hours a week for summer vacation, and make enough money to pay for a full year's tuition at an average university.

High school graduate sees a tuition/minimum wage relationship that would require 48 weeks of full-time employment to pay for the same year of school. High school graduate also sees a number of non-tuition expenses that didn't exist in '78 - parking fees, lab fees, technology fees, facilities fees, etc. Books have gone digital and are licensed, so buying a used textbook is not an option. 52 weeks of full-time employment at minimum wage won't cover it.

High school graduate says, "Shut up, old man! I don't want a handout, I just want the same chance you had!"

"BTW, aren't you the same generation that said, 'Don't trust anyone over 30'?"

Don't be a grumpy old man.

    Okk.... hold up...
You guys all think Sanders is a socialist. Maybe we do need change in the country. Years after years and our economy has just declined. What are we? 12mil in debt? We need something new, some better ideas, better reforms. @iMelXP #FeelTheBern

@builderjunkie012 Thank you and yes, that is what I meant.

@Deinen Sorry for the misleading context and spelling. I do mean what builder said and I should have put "free" in quotes.

I have a question in response to this that has been on my mind for awhile. If universal education was implemented, would it be where people could have a choice of attending a private school to have a higher education or would everyone have to go to the same schools?

I don't want to be misconstrued as answering for Deinen, but there are multiple ways to go about this. Here are two:

    1) Make public universities eligible for public money, privates stay private. The criticism for this could be that is creates a separation by socioeconomic class, with all the richest students receiving the best education. The counter-argument is, that situation already exists.

    2) Implement a system like several of our OECD peers (Australia is one) where the government will fund your education at the school of your choice, you pay it back in payments once your income reaches a certain threshold. The criticism of that plan is it uses taxpayer dollars to line the pockets of over-priced private schools who use unethical and illegal recruiting tactics. The counter-argument is that that situation also already exists today.

@NuckleMuckle Another question. What about parochial schools (parish schools) for option 2. If this were to happen, some people could argue that the parochial schools are receiving government funding which could cause a mess should the government try to take over these schools.

For starters, parochial schools are technically allowed funding by the government as long it doesn't go to religious purposes. However, they are typically private, so I don't see why they would be free under Sanders's plan.

Apply this logic in the same way you do to high schools. Public high schools used to charge tuition. Now, the government pays for it with tax payer money. Private high schools still charge tuition, and whatever exceptions there are with parochial ones would be the same with colleges.

Anyways, it's been a while since I took the isidewithtest and things have not changed too much. I still agree with Bernie on most issues with 91%.
