How does this even make remote sense, staff?

That is by far, without a fathomable doubt, the dumbest excuse I have ever seen in my entire life for anything, ever.

Removing the caps filter:

-Able to post links. Actually Jess, you might not believe this, but Meepcrafters like to send eachother links, not just to staff.
-Able to use acronyms, and you are able to freely use a private chat without restrictions

Honestly, I'm pretty sure caps in messaging is a basic human right.

Staff, please either accept this or find a worthy excuse to shoot this out of the water

Like I honestly don't get this. Take off the caps filter, and go back to the old system where if someone caps spams, kick them and tempban after awhile. Now people just type word for word L I K E T H I S and it's even more annoying, and still only gets a kick and then a tempban.

 

I'd like to be able to have a good LOL, WTF, or an AFK.

The rule used to be three words of caps or less or you get a kick. It's not like we are short on staff or that a /kick is that much effort.

I'd like to see Caps back again.

 

Why is there such a need to use caps? I don't see how this should take priority over other aspects of meep that need staff attention. The reason that was given for this to be implemented is to send imgur links to staff when that is already possible, maybe not in /msg but in /mail or on forums. There is no need to implement caps in msg. I am not aware of the reason it was removed but I am sure that something lead to the removal of caps in msg in the first place.

 

There was a misunderstanding with a player that had posted an imgur link to another player about a funny moment they had. Because the caps filter had changed it, it sent the picture of a naked man to the player, and he had reported it to staff. The player who sent it was wrongfully banned after that for Inappropriate messaging.
And yes, that had happened on the server before.

You guys need to come up with pros and cons about the situation other than just saying "Denied, just use /mail". The alterations continue IN /mail as well.
Say you need to send proof about a hacker in KitPVP and you send it to an admin to check. The link has lots of caps in it, so /msg alters it and lowers the link to be lowercase. It takes the admin to a link with inappropriate information about something, so you get an unnecessary warning because of it.

Just remove the caps filter in /msg. It's not needed.

i mean i don't think it's such a big deal to freak out about, but sometimes it does get annoying when typing acronyms etc

 

I legitimately tried sending staff a report link about a bug 2 months ago. The bug is fixed now, but my report couldn't be seen because of the caps rule.

 

Let me ask this, why is there a reason not to include caps in /msg?

I think, personally at least, I'd like to see more answers than a circular argument such as 'Why is there a need'.
Instead, tell us your reasons for why there shouldn't be caps included in /msg.
While a profoundly weak argument, I'll provide an example;
Players can abuse this by using all capital letters in messages to others, effectively spamming them.

I'm not siding with any participants here, frankly, because nobody messages me. However; let it be noted that, in my eyes, staff should be answering the questions of the public, not mirroring them and parading them as answers.

This isn't the first time I've heard the legend of the unintended porn link. We know it's a fact that the chat filter will alter hyperlinks, and we know that the results will be entirely unpredictable. Based on how often people exchange hyperlinks, it is expected that such an issue would have happened before, and it can be expected to happen again.

For a server that bills itself as family-friendly, and mostly behaves that way, this should be considered an intolerable result.

As a parent yourself, if you paid for your children to play a game, and you saw it serving porn links to them, your first reaction would be to delete the game and demand a full refund. A server cannot be held fully responsible for the behavior of its users, but this isn't the case of user behavior - it's the code that's responsible.

I think you have the wrong mentality here. Its not the role of the server to needlessly restrict players from doing things. The reason something is restricted is because it causes a problem. If it doesn't cause a problem, then we should never take that away from the players because nobody gains from it and the players become irritated. The server does not benefit by having this restriction. The caps filter can be removed in private message with no harm.

The hyperlink is iffy because of more...naughty links being sent out, but they can still be sent through mail, so i honestly don't see the point. Theres already a way of bypassing it. Don't have an opinion on this one, as I can see it going either way.

And honestly Jess, this is quite literally a 30 second fix for fuzzlr or anyone with access to the plugins. It would take all of 15 seconds for DBLo (The legend himself) to fix it. Its such a small task that realistically, its not going to get in the way of things. If you can't provide the reason it was removed and can't really give an explanation as to why it should stay removed besides: "Why is there such a need to use caps". you should probably consider letting them have this.

 

This decision was made so staff didn't have to moderate private chats themselves so they could focus on more pressing issues than "Wahhh im getting caps spammmmed!!!" "Wahh im getting dirty links!#!@#" "Im getting spammed server ipss!@!@$#!". Common sense here derp. If you want to spam your friends with caps, oh well. If your link breaks? Well that's too bad. Report someone on the forums the correct way. If you wanted to send a link poke whoever on TeamSpeak, send them a mail, and or any other means of communication.

And for god sakes give Jess a break. She is the one who wrote it was denied, but was clearly more than a one person decision.

 

Apparently there's a reading comprehension fail in play here, but it's not mine, because I clearly said "a server cannot be held fully responsible for the behavior of its users." Do you need an explanation of what those words mean?

And when you cite "Report a Player," where we can clearly see that the admin response to inappropriate postings is banishment, you're backing up my statement that the server behaves in a family-friendly way.

We can allow caps in msg and in order for us to moderate it appropriately we can also turn on social spy.

 

Read fail, again, so I'll say again: please post a link to the RaP thread which contains a clickable link to porn. Any failure to do so on your part is a concession that you're just whining and making stuff up.

The server can stop people from posting inappropriately by having a complaint system, having people respond quickly to those complaints, and issuing bans as necessary. And hey, there it is, we have a staff team and means to complain in-game, in forums, and on TS, and the staff usually respond pretty quickly, whaddya know. And as a result, we don't have a server constantly bombarded by salty text and lewd links, like you find on so many other public servers. I feel like I'm pointing out the blindingly obvious here, and I'm trying to understand how all this could have escaped your attention. Have you been on Meepcraft long? Have you visited any other Minecraft servers?

Please don't offer any advice or criticism to any person on the subject of good parenting, as you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Posting a link to another Meepcraft forums thread? If it's already here, I don't see what damage is being caused. Unless staff have been really, really irresponsible, he's not going to find it anyway, which is the point of the exercise.

But supposing I'm wrong, and with rules being subject to interpretation, your opinion might be shared by someone in staff. So as an alternative, he can send it direct to me via PM. I solemnly promise not to make a complaint about receiving a link to a meepcraft.com link, and certify that I am old enough to view inappropriate materials without parental supervision.

 

Probably won't find a link in RaP, but if I take awhile I'll be able to find one in ban appeals.
