I'm confused a bit. Is this for kids who can't afford the bus or whose parents can't afford to drive them somewhere? Where does this take them? Rehab? Special learning centers? Alanon?

 

yeah is it for any child or children with problems or disabilities? Is it a program to help children in need extra support? im confused

 

This service is employed by parents who enroll their students in "troubled youth" schools. What this amounts to is this:

When they come pick your child up, it's usually in the middle of the night. They wake them up suddenly, restrain them with handcuffs, and give them an option

Come peacefully and take a flight to the destination

Resist and take a long van ride

These transport people undergo almost no criminal background checks, and a surprising amount of them with prior child molestation/abuse history.

This practice generally happens in Utah, where the laws are far more lax, in the guise of "Religious Schools"

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that this service would be used for kids that misbehave severely. Not going to school, getting bad grades, yelling at their parents, etc. I feel like this could be useful to teens who need some disciplining, kind of like a boot camp, but I definitely agree that the transport people should go through intense background checks. Other than that this is completely legal due to the fact that the kids are minors and they have no choice when their parent makes a decision.

Anyway, it seems to me that the focus shouldn't necessarily be on the transportation service, it should be on the place they're being transported to/from. All I can say to this is, I really really wish you had to pass a parenting test to have a child. We'd prevent complete and utter morons from breeding and destroying childrens lives.
Physical and/or mental abuse is never the way to go in any cases. "Smokers were wrapped in paper and set on fire" <-- The people who thought this was a good idea should be shot imo.

 

My own take: science has already taught us that an authoritarian parenting style is sub-optimal - it tends to yield adults who are less socially skilled, less able to exercise moral judgement, and more likely to develop aggressive behaviors: http://www.parentingscience.com/authoritarian-parenting.html

Given that it leads to these results when practiced by parents, who typically share a bond with the child that mitigates negative effects, it's impossible to imagine that it works out better when carried out by complete strangers with zero attachment.

It's professional child abuse.
