PvP Overhaul

Hello. PvP is a mess, and nothing is really getting done about the existing problems, so I thought I'd make a thread listing all the ones I can name off the top of my head. I'll start with the arena.

Terrarium
This isn't supposed to be an art piece, terrarium should be flat, little obstructions, in order to provide the most mobility and movement. Artistic design is something that is an add-on, after you've created a functional terrarium

No's of Terrarium

• No grass/minimal
• No water
• No lava
• No mountains
• No ice
• No block that isn't a full block/slab (ex: Snow, carpet etc)

Yes's of Terrarium

• Flat terrain
• Fire on the ground
• Long ladders
• Square shape

Also, ladders should be a minimum of 10 blocks tall, with NO OBSTRUCTIONS. You don't know how annoying it is for someone to get away because you can't hit them off the ladder.

We're no builders, and obviously this can be tweaked to look a little nicer, but I built that from the ideals of almost all competitive pvpers.


Combat
There are many things wrong with the combat and gameplay of terrarium right now. There are some things that need to be removed/added

Invincibility - This is the most annoying one of all IMO. Players have 10 seconds of invincibility upon jumping into terrarium. This is annoying for players that just run around and you need to wait to hit them, but it's most annoying for when you kill a god armored person and you're sifting through their stuff, and someone picks it up, but they have the invincibility, and escape with all your hard earned loot. Fix : Remove it, or lower it to 2 or 3 seconds.

Lag - This is a major issue, where hits don't always register and the serious lack of FPS among the majority of people with normal household computers. It's too central, move terrarium into it's own world or far away from where players need to load the ENTIRE spawn while fighting. It's seriously annoying. I average 60-120 fps in most places, but as soon as I start fighting I drop to 20. It's unplayable at times and it's incredibly annoying.

Potions - ADD SPLASH BACK DAMMIT

Plugin
The killstreak plugin and bounty plugin is actually pretty cool. There's just one problem with it. It's broken. After killstreak #65, it stops annoucing it cross server, and it negates the bounty from the player and no longer gives a reward for the killing of said player. Fix : Fix the plugin, lol.

Conclusion
I took advice from most pvpers and this is a summary of the things gone wrong so far with terrarium.

This isn't the first thread made regarding PvP issues on MeepCraft. We're aware of those issues. And yes it's always been pushed a little aside because it wasn't the most urgent thing to fix. But I would like to focus on this right now.
I will hand out projects/jobs/tasks to those people who can help me here, since I will be on winter break from Jan 27 - Feb 7. (Developing aspects are not included here)

Terrarium being in (the middle) of Spawn has always been a part of MeepCraft. Numerous times I have suggested the same, move Terrarium to another location. Fuzzlr would like to keep it there, I will do my best once more to convince him.

As far as developing goes, bribe Dblosevn to do this first .

One:
In any server, not registering hits can happen. This is standard in pvp, on any server. That's why if you aim at the opponents feet, there is almost no chance it won't be registered.
Two:
"Household computer." Set the standard of what a household computer is. If you use that, I don't see how you enjoy pvp. I'm always locked at 60fps (even while rec), and that could just be because my computer is fairly new.

While I wouldn't put the blame on you (I know that others suffer from fps drop), I feel that Meep shouldn't take the blame, either. Is Meep really the only server that you suffer from fps drop? You can't exactly stress that a new terrarium is needed, which is cleaner and helps with fps when the server's main focus is Towny.

 

I appreciate your criticism and I'd like to respond.

The lag issue is only something that happens on Meepcraft for me, I get fine , and do my friends , FPS on a lot of other servers except in Meep's terrarium.

The unregistering hits doesn't make a difference where you aim. I don't exactly aim anywhere particular when I'm fighting but I know people who do and it's really no difference. Honestly I may just be used to 1.7 pvp but on Meep hits don't register as often as they should and it gets annoying. Also, a lot of people, and the majority of people get 4 or less bars on Meep which is kind of weird. Meep should make a proxy that players can connect to before connecting to the server in order to provide easy and fast connections. Also, a side note : This lack of hit registration only happens on Meep for me. It is not standard in pvp, I play a lot of competitive servers where this doesn't exist

Lastly, by household computer I mean a work computer that isn't necessarily designed to play games like an Alienware or a Gigabyte computer that was meant to. For example a dell or an old Mac laptop



PS: If towns, like you say, is the main priority of the server why haven't we touched the towns plugin in over a year, and are instead developing mini games for people to enjoy. The old idea was that people would join for mini games and stay for towns which is a good idea in theory but hasn't always worked out like that. Meepcraft is a hub server and always has been, saying it is only a towns server is the same as calling it only a skyblock server, or only a pvp server. You'd need to acknowledge all aspects of the server in order to perfect it, which is why I brought up the issues of pvp. I'm interested in what your reply is though

 

Just an FYI, statements like these make them less willing to do it.

 

There is such a huge list to get done let's be honest it's demoralizing.
Creative, ctf, parkour, PvP, maps even New spawns are ready. They just need implementing and unfortunately I just havnt seen these getting installed that's why I havnt been on much as I don't want to waste my time building something that's not getting put in.


Bring back REGGLES at least things were happening.

I totally get what you mean, either things getting done, implemented and removed soon after or not implemented at all.
I remember a couple months ago when a new Towny spawn was released (I believe Oldchopper built it). It was a huge, huge cathedral with surrounding gardens, overall well thought out. We had it for like a week? If I spent that much time on a project just to see it go to waste... I would just quit.

If Reggles was so irreplacable, then things obviously will not work if that gap is not filled. Sjoe seems to be working his butt off... Dblo is getting paid to work his butt off, fuzzlr was supposed to do the mob arena for a month now, nothing is happening.

I wonder how the the tech side of the server is organized. It just seems like it's the same mess as Trello.

 

Ignorance is bliss sometimes huh.
Dblo tried figuring out why we cant move schematics across servers. You need console. Unfortunately ONLY Sjoe had it, Until yesterday.

To all: Things will be moving. Were fixing them. If you dislike the way they're going, do something more to help out instead of making a forum post for likes.

I'd like to thank @Oldchopper and anyone else who aided the revamp of the Terrarium. Thanks a bunch, and the map is playable and enjoyable Only a few more kinks to work out but I really appreciate the support and clarity of the staff team
