    Hellooooooo :)

I was curious, how many of you guys actually live in California or may have visited and done some pretty cool things? I will be moving there sometime in February to a military base & will be there for about three years. I want to make a "bucket list" of things to go see and do while there. I live in Georgia and the farthest I have "vacationed" from home is Disney world 4 hours from my house, so California will be quite interesting!
But so far my bucket list consists of:

    California Bucket List.
    1. Go to Disney Land!
    2. Go to Vegas!
    3. See giant trees!

So as you can see my "bucket list" is very nonexistent and that's quite lame. So, give me ideas! My husband is in the military so long trips may be hard. I'm not totally sure, still new to the military lifestyle. If it helps I will be living just north of San Diego on the coast! :D Hopefully there wont be an earthquake and I fall off the map of the US while I'm there! :D

(Yes I know Vegas isn't in California)

Ummm I got nothing, good luck with the heat or something

Come to central California and visit the vineyards before the water runs out (haha, just kidding, kind of..) ! They are very nice and dreamy, plus the weather is always around 80°!

Camp Pendleton, eh? Oceanside is a nice place to live. Enjoy the beach as often as possible.

Disneyland has nearly nothing new to offer you if you've already done Disney World in Florida. Disneyland is basically an older Magic Kingdom. Across the street is Disney's California Adventure, which is a lame disappointment. Nobody goes there unless the park-hopper pass is being steeply discounted.

The amazing thing about CA is you can do EVERYTHING. Some items for your bucket list:

    - Visit Big Bear in the winter for snow-based fun.
    - Offshore fishing is going nuts due to ocean warming, so if you like fishing, that'll take it up a notch or ten.
    - Whale-watching trip, at least once.
    - Vegas, or for a cheaper, less-crowded version, Laughlin, NV.
    - Avalon, Catalina Island is a good trip. And for an international experience, cross into Mexico and book yourself into a hotel/resort along the beaches between Rosarito and Ensenada. There's a beautiful scenic highway along the way, and you'll see the Black Pearl moored along the way.
    - Georgia has no or poor-quality hockey, so go see live hockey. It's way awesome live. There are plenty of cheap tickets to nearby AHL teams, like the San Diego Gulls or Ontario Reign. The AHL talent is only one step below NHL.
    - If you never got around to visiting Universal Studios Orlando, the one in the LA area is an option, and the two parka actually offer some different attractions, so it might be worth your doing even if you have.
    - I haven't been, but I hear amazing things about Knott's Berry Farm around Halloween.

    That'll do for a start. ;)

If you ever get the chance to go up to San Fransisco - there is a Walt Disney museum there. I've always wanted to go (done several research projects on Walt himself) but never ventured that far up the coast from Torrance. Knowing you know quite about Disney stuff, I think you'd love it.
Knott's Berry Farm was amazing when I was really young, and I'm sure it's probably still amazing. I've never gone around Halloween, but I've heard from people I know that it's amazing.
Disney Land, Disney's California Adventure - I loved Disney Land more than Disney World, but I grew up with Disney Land, so I'm a little biased.
You can go skiing and the beach all in one day, so that sounds like a pretty fun thing to do, no?
If you get the chance to watch sunsets, a lot of the times in the summer I've seen dolphins and whales come a lot closer to the shore. It's really nice getting to see them.
Don't know how you feel about Sea World, but I still love it even with the flack that goes on about it. It's another thing I grew up around. I really loved the rides and dolphin & pets shows when I was there last.
If you really feel like being adventurous, southern Utah has some really cool geography. Arches National Park. I really recommend it. Just a nice drive through some canyons and looking t pretty rock formations from natural events.
The Grand Canyon is also an amazing site to go look at. No matter what ridge you are at. :)

One thing I will tell you is that Georgia and California are two completely different lifestyles for the most part. So, just enjoy your time and get comfortable. :)

I live 30 minutes from the border, 2 hours to sac and 4 from san fran. If you ever visit san fran I suggest going to Alcatraz, and doing a segway tour. If you ever have the chance, take the PCH from san fran to southern cal, or from southern cal to san fran. It is mostly along the coast of the ocean is is one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever complete. Southern cal wise, visit magic mountain, sea world, universal studios. See some baseball games, you have the angels, dodgers, and the padres. Also you might you'd like some basketball too. If your going to go to vegas, make sure to visit the hoover dam and do the full tour, not the cheap partial one.

Funny thing is, I will live about thirty minutes from you and go to school about ten minutes from where you will live. So, considering you will have to pay for rent (or will you live on base?), which in California is pretty expensive, I've compiled a list of cheap things to do. Other than the obvious activities in the LA area, there are plenty of others that are relatively close to Northern San Diego and that don't require a lot of money and travel time.

The Gas lamp district in downtown San Diego has numerous high-end outdoor shopping, movie theaters and every type of restaurant your stomach is capable of craving.

The USS Midway was the longest serving aircraft in the U.S Navy and is permanently docked right off the shoreline of downtown San Diego. It serves as a Museum and has guided audio tours taking you all the way from the engine room to the flight deck. Tickets for adults are extremely cheap, ($20) and you can even get military discounts.

The San Diego Zoo is a bit more expensive coming in at $48 dollars, but the park is spread out over 100 acres featuring the Giant Panda to the polar bear to the Lion and of course the Elephant. Also, if your not afraid of heights, you can take an aerial tramway to the opposite end of the park hundreds of feet above the air.

La Jolla Cove is my absolute favorite beach in San Diego. It's situated only a few minutes drive from Camp Pendleton and is a beautiful white sand cove with shallow water and nearby reefs and caves.

Balboa Park is one of my favorite places to go in San Diego. To get into the park grounds is free and the park features 14 museums, Botanical Gardens, pathways with trees hanging sixty feet over your head, real IMAX theaters and architecture that makes to think your in Italy.

Considering I've been to San Diego dozens upon dozens of times, I'd be happy to start a private convo with you to give you more details and even more activities in or near San Diego :)

I don't know if it's still there, but when I went to San Francisco (I live an hr away from there ;)), I went to Madame Tusseads, and it was really cool, so you should go there if it's still there, not sure.

This reminds me... much closer to Oceanside, Beach Blvd in Buena Park (where Knott's sits) has a site of what used to be Movieland Wax Museum, and then a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum, but now hosts a museum on the human body that is getting good reviews. The same site is doing a Titanic exhibit... my wife and I visited one by the same company in Vegas and were quite moved by it.

Along the same stretch of road are two dinner-theater experiences. I've done Medieval Times and quite enjoyed it. A similar pirate-themed one is right next door.

A California King is a size of bed you can actually buy. A California King is longer than a normal king which is wider.
