Helpers

There isnt a huge difference between helper and Mod, they are both ranks in the staff team and they both have the same goal "help players with any issues or questions their having" (but with different perms and in different ways). the whole staff team is putting their own playing time to help other players have a good time so it makes sense for them to be appreciated, the higher staffs are always thanking everyone for putting their time to help the server. Also you said when you "work" which means you get paid, the staff team does not get paid in any shape or form, they only get paid from the pleasure of helping others. If you have a job in macdonald's you get paid so there is not a huge difference if someone thanks you or not since you getting paid, but lets say your volunteering to help elder people use computers at the library, your putting your time to help others without you getting paid so your doing it from the goodness of your heart so people always thank you after you help them, and at least for me a simple thank you makes up all the time I spend helping others because it shows appreciation and that you did something good in the time you helped someone and it didn't go to waste. Im not saying this cause im staff atm but make sure to thank staff members because they are putting their time to help keep meep a fun and safe place. Helpers do modreqs and represent the server. they are the ones who you'll most likely get when you file a modreq or need a question answered. Moderators are the next most likely, but they have slightly more responsibility. Helpers have more of an option to not catch X-rayers, look for dupers, Follow up on various other things. Mods generally have to do those things because they stepped up for the higher position and said, ''Yes, I can do this, I'm ready for this.'
Helpers do a lot of work for the server, and in some ways they do even more than mods and supers.

Imo, something public like this is unneeded. You can praise people in PM, in /shout ig, on their profile, there's no need for a whole thread about it.

 

You can, but in those options given it isn't exactly to the whole server, and people don't randomly go looking into staff's profiles to see if they're being given praise or not. Whereas in putting it into a thread, it's like an idea being shared to the world, and then people can build upon it and extend it. In this situation, only one person came up with the idea of praising staff, but other people joined in and recognized them as well. That's the definition of public recognition, when you publicly recognize someone for all to see.

Plus, if someone wants to make a thread about something positive, don't [be so quick to] shoot it down. They're trying to do good, and that effort is soon wasted if someone discourages them. How does it harm you, anyway? It's not like the forums has some sort of thread counter that limits the number of threads that one can make.

 

I'm not going to argue against the rest of it because I don't care enough, but this annoys me.
Just because it doesn't harm me doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be annoyed by it or allowed to say my opinion.
How did my opinion harm you in a way you had to argue.
Really. I hate that excuse.
