Auction and Jobs Channel

I was wondering, what if there was a channel in the game chat where players could trade items?
Auctions Channel:
Say i have 50 blocks of iron and i wanted to sell it, i type /ch auction (for example) and i set a starting price. People get to bid on this item until the highest bidder wins.
Jobs Channel:
Need a job or are hiring yourself out? Say it in this channel! Better then spamming it in the general chat
Trading channel:
Need to buy something? Need to trade something? Buy/sell here!

If it's possible to do implement, maybe there could be a way for players to turn off channels they dont want, or to turn channels on.

I feel as if these will add to the economy side of Meepcraft. And with everything going into the general chat atm, this would make things much cleaner and simpler. What do you guys think?

I would think this would make things more easier. indeed at first it will be confusing, as everyone will be confused by the new layour. But once people learn how to use the new chat, all the chat will be sorted and chat will be much cleaner and will flow smoother.

 

Why would people want to use a second chat for advertising if everyone will have it muted?

 

This is why we have TS and /msg.

 

@exodus2224 How many people honestly go on TS? And before people get to messaging one another, they spam their advertisements in general chat.
@Xxnine_tailsxX It was only part of the suggestion. Yes, THAT might not work, but what about the other parts?

 

How about you go to TS yourself if you want to answer that question?

@Mowmee Really? I thought it would help categorize everythng so people can get to see what they need or what they want. As the server gets bigger, if everything goes into general chat it'll be chaos.

ive wanted chat channels for ages
all the reasons the teamspeak server or forums have seperate areas apply to in game chat as well

 

-1 for auctions for two
Major reasons.
1. A massive plug in like this would lag the server, the massive amounts of auctions being put in and the amount of data it needs to hold would overflow the server, potentially ddos'ing ourselves.
2. If you run it like Skyblock (three auctions at a time max) nobody will be able to have an auction anything because of the tons of other people auctioning stuff too.

 

I've seen this on servers before it ends up spamming the whole chat so you can't focus on anything else

@marranz631 What servers have you seen this on? cause all the ones ive seen have been able to implement this without a hitch.

Play Skyblock while me jeffhill tell any ended gaming smshortstack's and horn are online. You will never, never, get an auction. Can you imagine in towns having over 100 people trying to create an auction with even more bidding simutaniously? The server would lag, no doubt about it

It's more about spamming commands in the last second. For that, I'm saying no to the auction channel. A separate channel for jobs and trading would also be much too spammy. For hub servers or pretty much any huge servers, do you think anyone would bother scrolling through the same chat messages advertising their shops? After the first few days, you'll start getting tired of seeing the same exact text about the same shop or pwarp. Take MinePlex for example; if there were that many people in one place all at once instead of it being divided into servers and lobbies, then no one would bother looking at text anymore.

Honestly, this is one of the better suggestions that I've seen from people, and it makes sense, but it wouldn't work because certain channels would be excluded along with having to alternate every minute to switch between channels. If we have a channel for general chatting, pwarps, shops, jobs, pvp, how many will be in every section? It isn't going to be evenly divided out of 300 people, let's say 60 people each channel. Even if it is evenly divided, the community won't really be together anymore. One person this, one person that. Now let's say if it isn't evenly divided. Then what's the purpose of the other channels if only 10 people are in it for most of the day?

What if people spam commands to auction just for one egg because they think it's a lot, or if they troll with the auction? It'll waste people's precious time, and those who actually want to sell something won't get the chance since you have to wait for the other person's to finish. If multiple auctions go on all at once, then chat would be messed up, and no one would focus on one auction.

The thing is, the suggestion's core is actually good, but all of the problems that may occurs due to it are just too many.

 

I am really against chat channels, honestly.
People will toggle the channels off. We'll call the group 'T' for simplicity
Now when a citizen advertises in the trade channel, T does not see it. T misses out on deals. T misses out on chances to sell items.
That's just an example.
