Protestant is a form of Christianity that strays away from eastern churches such as Catholicism or Eastern Orthodox. Your explanation of repenting is pretty much exactly what I'd imagine a certain denomination of Christianity to say.

Some Christian denominations, such as Baptists, have a belief that people should be more concerned about avoiding sin, rather than repenting it. While other denominations, such as Methodism, are more easy going and would side with your explanation of repenting.

We aren't exactly Baptists, but if we had to pick a denomination, we'd choose Baptist. But we still differ from Baptists in a few ways. But we believe in repenting from sin, as stated in one of my previous posts.

I live in the Netherlands, one of the first countries that allowed gay marriage. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with people being gay. They're just people, just like you. It's disguisting to see people getting put in jail just because they're gay.

Bumping this back up for the sake of stating my own opinion on this topic.

Gay rights is, in my opinion, a big issue, and something that I fully support.

I believe that no matter what your personal believes are, you should support gay rights. I am a Christian myself, but I don't believe that being homosexual or any other sexual orientation besides heterosexual is a bad thing, and I don't believe that homosexual people are any more likely to go to Hell than heterosexual people are. If you do believe that homosexuality is wrong, it shouldn't really matter, homosexual people should still have equal rights. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing on your beliefs or calling you wrong if you do believe that, you can believe whatever you want to. However, even if you don't support homosexuality, that absolutely does not give you the right to control the lives of others based on your beliefs.

Everyone should be able to live however they want to, as long it doesn't harm others, and homosexuality doesn't. On top of this, homosexuality is not a choice, but a natural thing. There's been a lot of studies to confirm this, but even if those can't convince you, think of it this way, if homosexuality was a choice, then why would many people who are homosexual spend years before they come out of the closet because of the fear of being rejected, discriminated against, and treated differently, when they could just "decide" to be heterosexual instead and then not have to worry about any of this?

Back to religion, if you're a Christian and you are homophobic, think of the parts of the scriptures that say things such as "Do to others as you would have them do to you" and "Love your neighbour as yourself". Would you treat yourself this way or want others to treat you like this because of something about yourself that you think is sinful? Probably not. Most sins are regarded as bad, but aren't treated as too big of a deal when they are done, because everyone sins. So, if homosexuality is a sin, then why is it treated as something so much worse than many other sins? People shouldn't be treated differently just because they sin in a different way than you do. Also, if gay rights and/or homosexuality in general is illegal, then should that mean that all things that the Bible has scriptures against should be illegal too? Should things such as eating pork, eating shellfish, wearing torn clothes, tattoos, etc. be illegal too? And the thing is, people can choose not to do these other things, but most of them are easily forgiven or not really regarded as sins, but homosexuality is not a choice, and it is considered worse, and I don't believe that that it how it should be. If you do believe that it is a sin, you should still accept homosexual and not treat them differently, just like you accept other people that you know despite their sins.

Another thing is, if you're a Christian, then you most likely want to spread the religion to more people. So, what do you think is a better way to do that, by being kind and accepting to people no matter who they are, or by discriminating against them and not accepting them because of the way that they sin in your eyes? I don't know about you, but if I was not religious, I probably wouldn't consider becoming a part of a religion if its followers treated me like that.

Overall, whatever you personally believe is okay, and you should be respected for your beliefs just like other people should be respected for theirs. But that does not at all give you the right to control the lives of others, discriminate against them, and be jerks based on what you believe. Just be nice, loving, and accepting to everyone, and let them live their life how they want to and by being who they are. :)

Why? That's what straight people do. It's not like gay people are scary. Besides, that is a right: the right to stand up for what they believe in.

    This actually infuriates me.
I don't know if I posted it or not, but there are people who get upset when I make a mistake when using their new gender... uh, old gender... er, other gender?
I've gotten yelled at. Literally yelled at. By someone who was trans and demanded I use their new name... but only around 18 people.
    No.
    Just
    No.
I compared these people to religious extremists who PUSH THEIR VIEWS ON OTHERS.
When your problem becomes my problem, we have an issue. Pick one; I'm not using both. Why is it such a big deal to keep your real name? I personally do not like my name but don't go around changing it... if someone wants to call me a nickname, sure, why not? If I use a name I called you by BY YOUR CONSENT for 7 years... you'd think it be a *bit* hard to change that old of a habit? Let me tell you, it is.

My good friend actually used a vague description that works well:
"Like... there's a subculture where all of this is just understood
It's a bunch of people who are figuring things out about themselves and each other and finding ways to define them
And there's a larger culture that often rejects them
But their attempts to change or get along with the larger culture sometimes look like, "You should immediately be like our subculture"
    And... yeah that's not happening"

    Acceptance isn't forced either.

Of course not. But you can't go 'Okay I accept that you're gay just I don't think you should get married or have kids. And let's not talk about it.'

In other news, Same-sex marriage is likely to head to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Michigan appeal is ready to be sent to the Supreme Court for review, and the justices may decide in January whether or not they'll accept the appeal. If they accept the appeal, then we may just see a decision on same-sex marriage by next summer (June 2015).

The 6th circuit court was the first circuit court to uphold gay marriage bans. The other 4 circuit courts struck down the bans when they were appeals from various states. Ginsburg has already stated that the 6th circuit court's decision would determine whether or not the Supreme Court takes on the case. And, now that there is a split in the appellate level of our court system, it calls for "urgency", which makes it likely that the high court will take the Michigan appeal in January. Unlike other appeals, the Michigan gay marriage case targeted all major aspects of same-sex marriage; same-sex partners' adoption, striking down voter-approved constitutional gay marriage ban, recognizing out-of-state gay marriage, and requiring the state to perform same-sex marriages. The case first started with two female nurses ,April Deboer and Jayne Rowse, sued the state of Michigan because they couldn't adopt each other's children. They legally are single parents of each other's children, 2 of whom have special needs, but are denied the right to joint adoption. If the court rules in favor of the couple who is suing the state of Michigan, then same-sex marriage will automatically become legal in all 50 states. If, however, the court rules in favor of the state of Michigan, then we will go back to having each state decide their own marriage laws. Not only that, but you'll see many states re-banning same-sex marriage despite having their bans struck down in lower courts.

This is a very important case that may either make same-sex marriage the law of the land, or set us back a few decades.

    Sure you can.
If you're uncomfortable with a subject, why, as a friend of theirs, would they not respect that and try to avoid the topic. I understand how it goes both ways, but it does go BOTH WAYS.
There are too many cases of people getting attacked because they raised a finger against gay people. In my experience, especially with the newer generation, it's like... you're a monster if you don't join the cause or if you raise an issue against it, and that's ridiculous, especially for a minority to receive that privilege.
Now, I don't understand exactly why gay couples should have children if it's physically impossible to, but hey, there are a lot of up-for-adoption children that need a good loving home. As for marriage, why not; it is arguably simply a legal contract (if you do not get married in a religion). As I am Catholic, I AM against gay marriage in the Church. But legally, ynawt?

    To be clear.
I am not against people, but I am getting slightly tired of people getting upset with me for messing up something I am attempting in an effort to please them. There's a point where it simply becomes pushing beliefs onto others. I don't condemn you, your actions, or your beliefs, stop condemning me for of all things, using the wrong pronouns.

I wholly believe society has put an unnecessary amount of attention on this situation, rather then focusing on much more dire threats. I personally do not stand for the extremely popular mind set of homosexuality however, that does not mean that's I hate homosexuals or condemn them or seek/desire to suppress their rights, it just means I don't agree with them.

It's not really a debate imo. *bias levels at 100%*
I mean, we should have the same rights as everyone else. We're no different lmfao. Just because I like the same gender as I am doesn't mean I should be prohibited to be with who I like. But ya'know. Today's society. Lol.
