It's a reasonable thing to do I would say.
It's kind of like a game in itself, just play pubg and get your stuff back. It's all in good humor: they even give a code for you to unlock it if you don't have time to play pubg, plus it only encrypts files that are on the desktop.
This is honestly one of the most pathetic and idiotic things a person has ever done. You're given the ability to create ransomware, could have the potential to make actual money and then you go and contribute to a petty video game debate for ten year olds.

I'm pretty sure that taking money from people is sort of kinda morally wrong, and carries much heavier legal charges than this does. Plus, this is like saying an elaborate prank trap is pathetic cause it doesn't actually hurt the person involved. It's clearly for laughs, not for personal gain or to cause damage.
