Why is speaking in another language a threat?

[FONT=Tahoma]I don't understand this. Why in the world can't I speak in another language? It's discouraging & even though no staff may not know another language, they should at least guide them in a more friendly way instead of just kicking them out of the blue. I remember when Beaufx told me that he was banned for speaking in another language to help a person who spoke in another language & knew 0 english. That's pretty much similar to a French server where a person who knows english helps another person who speaks the english language. I also counted backwards in Espanol and that's apparently a reason to give a warning. Just... just no.
Also, how is it a threat? It's not cursing or anything. (Even though people may be cursing in another language, it should be crucial that a helper/mod assists them right away just in case of trouble, or they might just need some assistance.) It's innocence being banned for no reason. It discourages others to be treated equally as if they did speak english. Staff could go on google translate and say that this server doesn't speak their language and then they'll probably log off. There's literally 0 valid reason why anyone should be able to speak as simple as Spanish. Maybe Japanese and Mandarin are hard but at least Spanish, Italian, Greek, and French should be validated without a kick. Maybe just tell them to take it to message or something. Even though staff do not know how to speak this language there should be no reason why it should be discouraging or illegal. It's not promoting bad behavior...
It's just invalid bans. Please try to be more understanding and flexible with this rule.

speaking in another language in itself isn't a threat, it's the fact that other languages aren't filtered, so we could potentially be allowing swearing to be allowed in chat, not everyone knows other languages so it may be difficult to communicate if we allowed all languages, but it would also be drastically hard to make the filter block out every swear and bna word in the language of anything.

tell me this, would YOU want to moderate many different types of chat? I don't think we can get a staff for every single language, without filling up the team, it's better just to kindly remind them to speak english, to make it less harsh on staff, remember there's still warnings. plus we also have the inaccurate google translate

It isn't a threat, but as Vex said above people could just be taking advantage of the staff not knowing what they were saying, and swear or threaten others. I mean, I know that I wouldn't want to have to get google translate out to see what they were saying and know that it might be inaccurate when it translates.
I mean, helping someone in another language would be okay, but it doesn't have to be in global still. But if you were just talking that language for no reason is another thing.

It’s too challenging to moderate multiple different languages. I don’t think the issue lies in the language barrier, just that it’s asking too much of our staff team to have to try translating what some people are saying to make sure it is okay.

with not being able to speak English potentially means you can't read. if swears in another language aren't filtered they could swear and think it is okay because it went through, also if it's the case they might not be able to read the rules

I think the trick is to have a couple staff who know at least some Spanish, enough to say something like tu habla ingles por favor (speak english please) or something.
Also it decimates the community when english and spanish players are on the same server (makes two seperate communities which is BAD) I've seen it happen on other games, even other servers, and it isn't pretty.

also then we'd get "Clash of Clans" syndrome where everything gets censored randomly.
also if there was a spanish staff then dark and I couldn't swear at each other in spanish in global :(

Why? Just speak english, and it’ll be fine. Managing one language is hard enough, imagine if the staff had to regulate five different languages with a dictionary constantly in their hand to check if that word is appropriate or not.

It wouldn't be hard but it would be unreliable. If people curse in another language and a staff asks mr translator if its a curse, they say no because of the lols and then person gets to curse all they want

none of meep's staff are paid, I doubt you'd get a translator to help on the server for free.

The reason is because of people with extensive knowledge of other languages, and the fact that the staff cannot moderate it. (Even with Google translate, as most people don't have a Mandrin keyboard)

And you may say: "no one will take advantaged of this". Well, I say people will. I would. I know non-family friendly phrases in seven languages. Other languages should not be allowed *in general chat*. There is no issue with /msg as you can cuss in there already.

Although I don't have an opinion either way; I've actually helped a few players with general meep stuff via Google Translate while I was staff and there was never an issue. The issue being presented seems moot. The complaint is that "someone may swear and nobody knows it's a swear word so they will keep doing it". However, if nobody knows it's a swear word then it seemingly does no harm. Of someone calls me insulting names in Mandarin, although it's against the rules to swear, I won't be affected because I don't know Mandarin: I'll just see a bunch of lines and laugh. If someone where swearing and a player did happen to know the languahe, and it affects them, most likely they will report it and a staff will use the common sense to verify the report via Google and then they can issue an appropriate punishment (while also letting the player know the rules in their selected language)

In summary I don't see how anyone will be majority affected by a swear word that they don't know is a swear word.

I would probably agree on not having lengthy conversations in another language on Global chat. But someone speaking in Global in another language shouldn't necessarily be a cause for an infraction. When it happened to me it was just some kids that needed genuine server help; Its not their fault they don't know English and still want to play.

Thank you for making this suggestion, but at this time we will not be moving forward with it.

No staff member is paid currently (except for Fuzzlr).
It is not a good business decision to hire translators for the sole purpose of moderating chats in non-English languages (especially since you'd have to hire multiple, for them to be on 24/7).
The LOE (level of effort) required to develop a chat filter that heuristically blocks curse words from every language is larger than the benefit to the community that would come from such an update.
