my mac won't recognise usb's or anything I plug in

soo I plugged in my usb in the port and I went into finder and clicked on it from the side bar and I got this message that said 'usb can't be opened because the original item can't be found'

and also on the sidebar under the device menu is 'remote disc' which has nothing in it and I am really confused because this means I cant back my computer up and something will most likely happen to it
I tried looking on google and it said to relaunch finder but it didn't help.

I'm not a Mac expert, but the least you could do is take it out and plug it back in, or restart your computer.
