Introduction: Hello all, I’m Sophie also known as once or onceuponajano in game. I am 19 and currently studying an Undergraduate degree in Criminology at university.
I first came across Meepcraft when I was looking for a towny server. I trawled through numerous servers but many did not have the same warm welcoming that Meep did. I believe this is because everyone treats the server as a tight knit community unlike bigger servers where there is a high volume of player traffic each day and too many people to get to know. Today as a player and like most, I try to give the same friendly welcoming that I received as a new player to those who join or rejoin today. Doing this has mainly come from seeing staff act as good role models to all players and passing on their positive attitude to everyone!
The majority of my 2 years on Meepcraft have been based in towny, where before the reset, I was a Co-mayor in the Beta town of Legend. Thanks to this position, it gave me the confidence to apply for staff in the more recent town of Legend, in which I have earned the position of Assistant. In addition to this, I have made some of the best friends from these towns and I hope to continue these friendships into the future.
As for my personal life, my hobbies, apart from playing Minecraft, include playing field hockey, drawing, walking my dog, cooking, and I am hoping to get back into playing in a brass band when I graduate, where I used to play the Cornet (or a small Trumpet).
Why should you be Helper? Knowledge:
Despite having no previous experience of being a staff member on another server or on Meepcraft, I don’t see this as a weakness. It is an exciting opportunity to put my knowledge to the test and learn more about the server in a staff capacity, rather than in a player capacity (which I definitely have experience of).
From spending most of my time in towny, this is where a lot of my knowledge will come in handy. However, I have recently been playing Skyblock and understanding how to survive and complete challenges, so I am constantly trying to learn new things about the server. This is alongside trying my hardest at Parkour, which has been a struggle, but thanks to Ellie and Vi pushing me through the countless times I’ve wanted to give up, I have been getting much better at it! I feel I would be able to apply this mindset to my knowledge of Meepcraft and also use this determination to my advantage to get problems solved.
Involvement:
I used to keep quiet and not really speak up in global chat, as I was quite a shy person that kept to myself. However, I believe that in the past year, while being at university, I have gained a lot of confidence in person and in game, and have come out of my shell.
I hope that many of you have seen me chatting and welcoming people in global recently as I have been actively trying to speak up more. You can always find me making or clearing plots in Legend or failing miserably in Parkour, so if you need to ask a question or to just have a chat, come find me!
On the subject of Legend, I am always around to help new residents get settled in or to aid them when they need it. It never gets old to me and with the other staff members of Legend there to help when needed, this support system that we have built reminds me a lot of our staff team. I believe I am ready to expand beyond Legend and help more practically in a server-wide role.
Location:
With being in the UK, I can offer to help in times where there are gaps in staff not being online (especially in the morning GMT) but I can also offer to relieve pressure when the server gets busy (late evening GMT). While there are other members of staff based in and around the UK, I can assist them when they personally might be busy. I have recently been getting to know these members of staff.
Experience:
As I have previously said, I have been on Meepcraft for over 2 years now and I believe I’ve gained nearly enough experience and knowledge to feel confident enough to apply for the role of Helper. Even though my expertise lies with towny, if a player was asking for help I know that I can still use the command /help or ask a higher member of staff.
Outside of Minecraft, I am currently the Ladies’ President for the university’s hockey society. I have to take on responsibilities such as ordering and sorting playing kit, managing the society’s website that I have created, handling subscriptions and the organizing of events. This role shows that I can work under pressure of the asking from the Students’ Union and am time efficient, but also trustworthy as I was voted into the position and majority thought that I was best suited to the role. Furthermore, I am one of the two people for 1st years and/or anyone new who joins to ask for if they need any help about the society itself.
Dedication/Work Ethic:
Growing up playing in team sports such as hockey and rounders, I have picked up good team building skills that can be applied to being part of the staff on Meep. If I am successful, I will dedicate myself fully and will perform tasks given to me quickly and effectively, and not shy away from any job.
What are your weaknesses? I have been thinking about this section for a while now and the majority of my weaknesses have a recurring theme of lack of confidence and getting over the first ‘hurdle’ (or in other words, scared to try things for the first time, but as soon as I’ve done it once I am completely fine and am happy to try it again). I have battled this self-doubt throughout my life, especially during school, and it is still as problem that is present to this day but it is definitely something that I am working very hard at to tackle.
Discord:
Discord is something that I want to get more actively involved with and I have been trying to do that recently. Even in lectures and seminars at university, I am quite a reserved person only speaking up if I need to or have been picked to do so. But with past experience chatting to a few friends on Skype while playing on an old Minecraft server, I believe that once I have spoken for the first time on Discord, I will be perfectly fine and my nerves will have passed. Even by doing this, the environment at home and while I’m at university can be quite busy so I wont be able to get on as much as I would like.
Forums:
This is a similar story to Discord, I am trying to be more active on that platform but I am getting there so bear with me!
Insecurity:
As my problem with confidence is quite prominent, this brings out the insecurity in myself. I often doubt my own ability in most things even though I know I am correct. I am starting to grow out of this by pushing myself to take up roles and jobs that I wouldn’t have done before and that is why I am currently writing this application. This also wouldn’t be possible without the help from the friends I have made on this server, who in fact make up some of my references, believing in my ability to become a Helper.
Availability:
As I will be going back to university in September and will be starting my 2nd year, my amount of time to spend playing on Meepcraft will be reduced to what it is now. I did take a break from Meep last year while I was settling down into life at university, but I believe that I have learnt how to manage my time effectively with work and I will be able to get onto Meep more often. The only days that I will struggle to get on would be on a Wednesday, as this is the day that I have BUCS hockey matches and the student night out, and a Saturday, as this is the day that I will have hockey matches for my club outside of university.
As I have said many times, these weaknesses will not hold me back forever and I am looking forward to changing into a more confident person!
Please give any other information you might think is useful for us to know: Even without the Helper tag, I want to keep up the reputation of the server being warm and friendly to anyone of all ages and gender, for example.
