To start, the server is not dying, nor has it been the last 200 times it's been said. I also don't think it's a good idea to create an entire subthread where people can dedicate their complaints and threats of quitting, only to be seen back on the server a week or two after. A majority of threads that have been in the leaving subject had been made for only a few reasons.
1) To try to extract some consession (If X doesn't happen, I'm leaving!)
2) For attention, whether it be recognition of bandwagon joining (server is dying) or to have people respond not to leave.
I think genuine farewell threads do fit into the discussion forum, as it's most visible and it's often players wanting to say a special word about other players, or server in general.
