I see the benefit that since the population on Meep has reduced so much, it isn't really large enough to support two Towny servers. The server's jumpin' when there are only 30 people in Beta. And considering how many towns there are in each server odds are most of those 30 people are in DIFFERENT TOWNS.
With that said, I still don't think it's worth the effort. As a Beta user, I'd say just take the active Alpha towns and paste their chunks into Beta (there's still tons of room). But if any of them are like my town, they take the surrounding landscape into account when claiming new areas and maintaining "Natural Preserves" to have a nice backdrop for the town. I'd be pretty pissed to have my town moved to Alpha unless 20 chunks out from my town was moved as well to account for expansion and maintain landscape consistency. And even then, I'd want some say in where it was plopped down (not into an ocean or desert or mesa)
