So I have this pet peeve.
It's whenever adults see a murder on the news or something and they're all like "BACK IN MY DAY, YOU NEVER HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF THING!" Or, as my mom constantly says, "YOU NEVER KNOW IN THIS DAY AND TIME!"
However, there are two reasons that this is a stupid thing to say:
a) These types of things did happen in "your day", just not as frequently. and:
b) Who causes these things to happen? People from older generations. No child pops out of the womb and says "I'm going to shoot up a school!" Adult "role models" influence said child to do thing like that. Who provides the child with a gun? Somebody from an older generation. But what if a fellow child gave them the gun? Well, who gave that child the gun? Eventually, we realize that the crimes of the world lead up to older generations.
Although it is true that crime rates increase over the years, crime has always been there. The acts of the younger generation are influenced by adults, yet the same adults claim that "back in their day" this didn't happen and that the world is a terrible place.
