Imagine this scenario: You have five skyblock islands: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. They're level 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, and 1996, respectively. As you say, the top three islands (1, 2, and 3) win the prize. They then invest the prize to improve their island, and next week they're 2020, 2010, 2005 (the end of the prizes) 1999, and 1998 respectively. You can imagine what would happen from here on out--the top islands would use their initial dominance to win the prize, which would then be very difficult for other islands to overcome without a tremendous amount of dedication. Basically, the top three islands would strangle out the other islands, and people would quit playing skyblock once the lead is insurmountable.
I eralize this is a bit of a slippery-slope fallacy, but it's entirely realistic.
