For those of you who do not know how to update to the Minecraft 1.9 snapshot(released July 29), I have made this thread.
NOTICE:Updating to a snapshot with your primary minecraft single player world(without a backup) is not recommend, as many bugs have yet to be patched. Also please note that many 1.9 features are not fully implemented in this snapshot.

1. Open minecraft
2. In the lower left corner, click the down arrow near "Profile-Current" to open a menu.
3. Click the section labeled "Pre-Releases"
4.Click Play
