Three days ago i had a Sheep pet that i placed and couldn't pick up. After that it vanished leaving a pig that said "Sheep Pet" but the sheep egg was gone. Then today after the /pack command was added i tried it on my 180 gold ingots and it gave me 20 gold ore.
