This will probably be denied and has probably been suggested before yet I'm too lazy to check so here it is:

Say you're playing for a day and you swear because you feel like it and are being stupid. You get banned for a day and come back to play. But is that ban really necessary? Time away from the server most probably won't affect future outcomes for the player will find something else to do. As a player who can get flamed by people I don't like, on other servers a mute calms me down more than a ban would. I got muted for a week and it sure helped me more than a 7 day ban on meep. I suggest for chat related offended excluding advertisements, mutes should be issued instead of bans. Most of my reasoning comes from the fact that being unable to communicate with the community - if you become angry you have nothing to do except stay silent. It works better than it seems. If a player has constant chat offended you could issue a perm mute that can be treated like a perm ban which is appealable after enough time has been waitedDang it sorry I'm on a phone so my grammar isn't exactly on point- autocorrect :/

I like it. The punishment fits the crime. Especially for the smaller offenders and annoying shouts in chat that staff might have trouble deciding what to do. Instead of a slap on the wrist with just a kick for language, a mute for whatever amount of hours would be more fitting. Repeat and/or serious offenders could then face longer mute periods or a ban as per usual.

I really don't mind chat offences. I couldn't care less if someone is cussing at me. But, I think muting is a good idea, especially since the person can still play on the server and be punished at the same time. :D +1.

For example, someone spamming or cussing in /g could be muted just in that channel, but still allowed to talk in /l or /w. Or, they could be muted on all public channels, but still be allowed to use /msg, /tc, and /nc.

I was thinking of two levels of mute. One that is more restrictive with a full global mute, no /msg rights, maybe /r only to reply if someone else (like staff) talks to you first. For that one, you would have to go to the forums to plead your case. The second level would be a less restrictive mute that prevented you from chatting in public channels, but still let you talk to people in your town or nation, and /msg.

+1. Muting players could be a great way to calm players rather than banning them for a long period of time, but they still should have /l or /msg in order to still contact people, with using /msg to message a staff member.

I didnt feel like reading the whole thing but I agree with this. One time i got muted on this server and they were Nice enough to unmute because it was a 1st offense. But anyway i was really mad at myself for getting muted and so i never was again. I got temped like maybe idk 12 times in meep, but i never cared about the temps. Another point is i went to other servers while banned and i grew away from meepcratf.
