You just joined my town. You are poor, and I have tax, so I say I'll give you free VIP.
You now get all excited cause you're a citizen nub and you think you're getting the donor rank.
All of your hopes and dreams are now shattered when you receive this towny VIP, and realize all you have is no tax.
You get sad and leave.
Make sense?
People who just joined don't know the difference, hence the suggestion.

I've owned well over a dozen towns, for over a year. This just plain doesn't work sometimes and it's annoying to have ti explain.

I can't really think of another word which meets the description though. If someone can think of a good replacement for VIP then I am ok with this idea.

Lol, there's no need for this. In /g, VIP is clearly in green, when you talk in chat, the VIP from towny does not show up. People should know the difference. -1.

That not true! I do AGREE with stuff that is not jealous babble that does not "improve" the game for anyone! This suggestion here would IN FACT fix a problem that IS a misleading term for new players. ALSO, this IS something that can eaily be fix by ANY ADMIN in LESS TIME then it would take them to read this thread!

It HAS been complained about before, and just like 999 out of the 1000 other suggestions that just goes into a big pile that never gets done, this one will probally fall the same fate!

I once had a kid begging for towny VIP, who thought that being the VIP in a town would give him the donor rank.
Just change it to like "Diplomat" or something, since it gives tax immunity. That would almost make sense.

If you don't have the common sense to differentiate to new players between town vip and vip the rank then I don't feel like that's the name's fault
Additionally if someone leaves your town because you didn't spend 10 dollars on them for free then you really didn't want them in the first place

EDIT: I don't care if it's done or not. it just seems like extra work that never will get done considering the devs (apparently) generally have more important things lined up
