Yes, there was a glitch around that time that caused town staff, including mayors, to be taxed... so you may have been kicked for not having enough to pay taxes. I'm sorry this happened to you! :(
Do you have any screenshots showing yourself as mayor, or screenshots of the town bank or your balance the last time you checked (while you were still mayor)?
