idk if this is my laptops fault or one at meeps end. every time i try and get on meep my mc either doesn't respond or crash. this always happens, i have tried updating java reinstalling mc but nothing happens. idk if its the lack of memory i have given mc (if this is the case how do i give it more memory ?) if anyone could help it would be much appreciated

Forst tey changing your vireo settings. Set Render Distance to the smallest, Clouds Off, Particles at Minimal, Graphics to Fast, etc. If that doesn't help open your task manager and find java something (can't remember what it is) in your processes, right click on it, and click priority, then give it high priority or very high priority. This worked for me on my old laptop to reduce lag.
