Well onis did say that all account information would be cleared which means that you change your name and you're not banned anymore. They can still figure out if you are an alt if they checked your ip.

Because if you are not ip banned that just means your characters name is technically not "whitelisted" on the server. So the name of your avatar is banned not your whole computer, ip, etc.

They can not ip ban or check your ip, because there ddos protection makes everyone have the same ip.

Not true as of a month ago.

Bans are the only thing that'll stick if you change your username.

We will be seeing the rise of Minecraft 1.8 soon.
When this happens, Mojang will start allowing you to change your Minecraft usernames.
Please note that if you change your username:
You will lose ALL of your data (Meebles, Items, Towns & Residency, Hiscores, etc)
You will lose ALL of your donator ranks
No one will know who you are! You will be a loner.
Someone else can steal your old username and your assets above!

For this reason we ask you, do not change your username!
An administrator will not help you recover your assets if you do!

so if i change my name to idk lets say 'john33434' but lose haztheman99's assets then change it back to haztheman99 will i get all haztheman99's stuff back?

Account System Update[25] This will include the ability to change your Minecraft username and have multiple copies of Minecraft per account. Bans will be changed to use a new Player ID system. This will not be in 1.8

Every account has unchangeable data linked to it, so bans shouldn't be an issue. The name will be most likely superficial, like your skin.

Unless somehow IPs were used or something more advanced, I'm sure the ban list only has usernames in it.

If you have a town meebles etc. and if you change your username all of it will disappear right ? how about if you don't ? still disappears ?
